Tinder. You know, that App that was created in 2012 by Mike Wigger? That dating App? Swipe left, or right? Ahead of its time, this mobile App, and the technology of the twenty first century is how nurse Katie met Dr. Geoff. And so began a relationship that blossomed into a friendship, and now a marriage.
It was a Fall day, 2018. The setting: The historic Patapsco Female Institute located not far from the old town part of Ellicott City, nestled in the woods overlooking the Patapsco River valley. Rich with history, the Patapsco Female Institute was a former girls’ boarding school, now a partially rebuilt historical site. The grounds are home to popular outdoor theatrical performances by The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. It opened in 1837 as a girls’ finishing school; it remained in operation until 1891. Later, it served as a hospital, a hotel, and a private residence. In 1966, the building was purchased by the Howard County. Since 1966 the building has been under the care of the ‘Friends of the Patapsco Institute’; it has been stabilized and partially restored, and the grounds fenced in to limit public access and is now used as a park and wedding. The roofless building brags Roman columns, moss-covered limestone, steel restoration beams, multiple levels, deck, and concourses, with an open architecture, with many of the areas visible from other part of the building.
It was this beautiful backdrop that Katie and Geoff hosted their family and friends to witness their marriage. Add Jenga, cornhole, bacon-covered donuts, great music by Wizer Productions, and a superlatively well done catering service by All Spice Hospitality catering, and you get wedding to remember!
Join me, my assistant Lindsay, Katie and Geoff, and their sweet and amazing families and friends on a “sneak peak” tour of their wedding this past weekend!
