It was such a delightful experience to get together with Julia and Eddie on an October Sunday afternoon, and spend a few hours capturing photos of them in Downtown Annapolis (DTA), where Eddie earlier this year proposed to Julia and had some 25 of their friends and family waiting (yes, she was surprised!) in a restaurant to celebrate the occasion. Eddie got a lot of points in the ledger of romance!
Julia, a school teacher, and Eddie both work for the Howard County School system. Upon meeting them near Ego Alley in DTA, Eddie spent about 15 minutes getting assistance from his soon to be step Father-in-Law on the skills of putting on a necktie. Needless to say, mom, Julia, dad, myself, and all the spectators were amused at the this. It did set the stage for a fun, goofy, playful vibe for the rest of the afternoon, if you don’t count the time Eddie had to sneak a peak at the Ravens 4th quarter score with a minute to go!
As you can see from the teaser photos below, Julia and Eddie are photogenic and got more and more comfortable with the camera as the day wore on. I used the bright sunlight to my advantage, which of course can be challenging with shadows, etc. With the help of off-camera wireless remote strobes, deflectors and diffusers, I captured amazing photos of the two. Some of the sniper shot telephoto images of course were done using ambient light. Photos were taken at the pier, atop a Yacht parked in Ego Alley, on Main Street, at Hats In Belfry (a hat shop in DTA), up and down various alleyways, and at the Maryland State Capitol building lawn where the turning foliage gave us a “park” or “country” feel. As Julia said later, the shoot gave us such variety, both a city feel, and a country feel. And Rocco, their lab/pit mix added great entertainment and images to the mix.
Coming in July 2015, Julia and Eddie will tie the knot at Our Lady of Angels in Catonsville and celebrate the occasion at the Rolling Road Golf Club.
